Another major project spearheaded by Mrs. Tierce is the statewide campaign to collect $3,000 for the installation of heating and cooling units for the greenhouse at the Mississippi State Hospital, Whitfield. In addition, she also served on the national committee to revise the Garden Therapy Manual which was released Jp 1998. The courtyard garden at the South Sunflower County Hospital has been an ongoing project of the Indianola Garden Club since 1994, when the club received a National Certificate of Merit for the project.

In addition to the National Certificate of Merit, Mrs. Tierce was awarded the Entergy "Keeping Mississippi Beautiful" award at the state convention of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi. Inc. in April. Josephine Tierce, president of the Indianola Garden Club, was presented a national award at he recent Hills and Delta District meeting of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi held in Clarksdale.

The Certificate of Merit for Garden Therapy was accepted for Mrs. Tierce by the state president of the National Council of State Garden Clubs convention in Atlanta in May. This award is presented to an individual who has promoted Garden Therapy in such a way that garden related activities are used as an aid to the recovery and rehabilitation of the ill andor handicapped. Mrs. Tierce was one of two members nationally to receive a Certificate of Merit at the national Under her direction as State Garden Therapy Chairman for the past four years, there has been a 100 increase in garden therapy projects initiated by garden clubs statewide.
